Attention: RC-CAM.com will be closing down August 2021.

The RC-Cam.com forum was the very first online community dedicated to the advancement of wireless video cameras on radio controlled (R/C) models. This is now called "FPV" (First Person View). We are proud of the contributions that our members have made to the FPV hobby.

We've seen significant changes over the last twenty years. Initially there were a lot of eager R/C hobbyist that built their own video systems. Allowing these creative individuals to share their work was the purpose of this site. Now the FPV market is flooded with low cost systems; Sadly DiY FPV video projects are now rarely discussed.

RC-CAM.com (main site and forum) will be closing down August 2021. This is being announced now (March 2021) so that everyone has time to download any information that is important to them. After the site is shutdown the information will no longer be available here.

We appreciate every member's involvement with advancing the FPV hobby. It is indeed sad to say goodbye to all our online friends. Be safe and stay healthy.

  1. thunder2005 I have done over 15 miles with a one watt 2.4 GHz transmitter on the aircraft. and a 6 ft parabolic dish on the receiver. I believe it was in September of 2003 Matt klarich and I conducted tests with a one watt video transmitter in a full scale Grumman aircraft and an Ultra light using the same 6 ft parabolic dish on the receiver and a 15 dbi Omni-Directional antenna. If I remember correctly the Omni-Directional antenna worked as good as the parabolic dish did out to about 15 miles. With the 6 ft dish we could receive the transmitter out to about 25 miles. But the aircraft
  2. Thanks Mike I am sure that if the guys would start thinking about it that they could come up with some very good competitive challenges that we all would find fun to do. And if we are not careful we may even learn something in the process. Come on guys start thinking!!! Dave Jones AUAV.net
  3. PetrasSaulenas What type of airframe are you planning to use for your UAV project? If you go to our web site at http://www.auav.net you can see the variety of airframes that we have flown with the Ezi-Nav system. Thanks Dave Jones AUAV.net Phone: 941-723-9058 1802 8 St. W. Palmetto Fl. 34221
  4. Kilrah There ate these really big things called airplanes and thay fly to the US every day from just about any place in the world. I am sure that there is probably one that fly from Switzerland to the U.S. Dave Jones AUAV.net
  5. Bill I am not asking for you or any one to take on the task of running this project, I am willing to do that. What I am asking for is suggestions and volunteers to help. I all ready have a few things in the works including a possible backer that is willing to put-up a bit of cash to help out with the expenses. As I stated before I would like to hold it in a centrally located area that would make it easier for all of the guys to attend, but that may not be possible. So if we do get it going we will hold it where ever we can get the use of a suitable and safe flying site. I think that you
  6. Guys I am going to try and answer all of this questions one at a time and in the order that you have presented them in Temporary Insanity You are correct but not all of us have the luxury of having a non AMA field to fly on so I see this as a step forward to allowing us to fly autonomous models at AMA fields. I do believe that we will have to create a SIG Special Interest Group under the AMA but it is a start. http://www.modelaircraft.org/PDF-files/158.pdf And it would allow those of us to test fly that have no alternative to an AMA field. yb2normal Bill It is open for discus
  7. Guys I would like to get this discussion back on the topic of having a UAV meeting. So far I have received replies from over a dozen of you that are interested in having a UAV meet. I know that there are others of you out there that have not responded please do so. The response that I have receive so far has been very positive. The first question that I have been ask is where should we hold it. My first response to that is any place that we can get that has enough room to allow us to fly. Some of you guys would like it to be close to where you live and I under stand that, however that ju
  8. Guys He is trying to make a roll and pitch attitude indicator so that he can fly the aircraft as if he is flying on instruments. I did this over 2 years ago and it worked very well. I have logged over 20 minutes of instrument time on Boom 3, I of course had a safety pilot on the primary transmitter wile I was on the buddy box in the event that I got screwed up the safety pilot could take over and and save the aircraft and prevent hitting any one on the ground and he did have to take over control of the aircraft many times before I finely got the hang of it. 9. Guys The folowing is an email that I sent to Dave Mathewson earlier today, in it I addressed Matt's concerns. This is why I have all ways sead that the EC should alow those of us that are involved in this part of model aviation. Please let me know it any of you have any input that should be addressed as well. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dave I just reviewed the new AMA safety code for 2005 I feel that it is a major step forward for those of us that are involved in au
  10. Bill Yes I agree with you that the new rule # 9 dose still prevent the use of video to fly models. But the elimination of the Autonomous rule is what I was talking about and if we can get that changed then we can get the video rule change as well. The one thing that the guys flying under video should be willing to except is that they may have to use a buddy box and have a safety pilot on the primary transmitter this way the safety pilot is the primary pilot and has the model under visual 100% of the time. 11. Guys you all need to go to the AMA web site and look at the new 2005 Safety Code you can see it at http://www.modelaircraft.org/PDF-files/105.pdf go to the section on radio control paragraph #9. Wile it may not be perfect it is a dam good start. It looks like we have finally won this battle. We all have to give a great deal of thanks to mine and your very good friend Hal. DeBolt for his dedication to this cause without his efforts I truly believe that this change in the safety coed would not have come about. For those of you that may not know Mr. Debolt he has been working very hard

  14. Guys The AMA election is coming down to the wire and we need to keep the momentum going if you would like to continue your work with UAVs and video enhanced flight then you need to get your vote in for Mr. Dave Mathewson if you have not cast your vote for the office of AMA president then please do it now. Please pass this on to all of your modeling friends and your club members regardless if they are involved in autonomous or video enhanced flight or not, they make up the vast majority of our membership please ask them to visit Mr.Mathewson web site at www.mathewson4pres.com. and if they do

I've seen car batteries short out internally and go off with the force of half a stick of dynamite." Perhaps we should ban car batteries Dave Jones AUAV.net
  16. randall1959 If you think that the U.S. Government did not violate the rights of U.S. citizens long be for the Patriot Act was ever conceived of then you need to get your self a copy of The Puzzle Palace by James Bamford it is about the NSA, FBI, CIA, NRO and every other spook group that the U.S. has or have had, it even goes in to some that they may have that we don't know about and may never know about. It will open your eyes about the U.S. government and your rights as a U.S. citizen. 911 as tragic as it was, has been and is still being used as an excuse to implement the Patriot Act and

  19. cyber-flyer I have to agree with you there is nothing wrong flying UAVs or RPVs as long as it is done safely. I don't know of any cases that a UAV, RPV or RC model airplane has been used in an inappropriate manner or as a terrorist weapon. All we ever hear is O-my-GOD you are building something that the terrorist can use as a weapon you should be stopped. I am getting dam tired of hearing it. How ever I do know of 3 cases where commercial jets and and one case of a Ryder truck being used as a terrorist weapons. Never I have seen or heard of any one wanting to ban commercial jets or Ryder
  20. Uncle Matt I keep telling him he's a WANKER and that I need a BIG raise and he keep telling me if I don't shut up about it I won't get to eat. What's a dog to do? Timmy D. Jones Chief Design Engineer AUAV.net
  21. Matt Please post more photos of your airplane. My dad wants to see them. Thanks Timmy D. Jones
  22. Blimy That's one DAMM Good looking airplane you got there Matt, outstanding color scheme two. How about giving us a rundown on it's specks. Wingspan: Length: Weight: Engine Size: Tank Size: Payload Size Who designed it and do they have plans for it do they sell a kit or can I buy one for my self ? I bet that my dad could build one for me if I asked him. Timmy D. Jones

  24. Randall1959 I went to the link that you posted and and I think that you are a bit confused. The frequency that the TV was emitting was 121.5 MHz not 1.2 GHz. I am not aware of any aircraft locator beacons in the 1.2 GHz band how ever the 121.5 MHz is in the VHf aircraft band and is what we in the Air Force called the Guard channel it is monitored by the Air Force, the Air National Guard, the US. Coast Guard and most commercial airliners wile in flight and by satellites. It is used to locate downed aircraft. The locator units are called ELT or Emergency Locator Transmitters An ELT i
  25. icharus I have been there and done that with X10. The email will stop in a few weeks or even months. I don't buy any of there stuff any more, most of it is crud anyway. I think that you will do much better to buy from Bill at Black Widow. I have used his stuff and it is much better and you deal directly with Bill not some guy that last week could not spell V I D E O and this week he is in sales or what X10 calls there tech support. I have never gotten any spam from Bill at Black Widow. Good luck. Dave Jones AUAV.net Vote Dave Mathewson for AMA President
