The RC-Cam.com forum was the very first online community dedicated to the advancement of wireless video cameras on radio controlled (R/C) models. This is now called "FPV" (First Person View). We are proud of the contributions that our members have made to the FPV hobby.

We've seen significant changes over the last twenty years. Initially there were a lot of eager R/C hobbyist that built their own video systems. Allowing these creative individuals to share their work was the purpose of this site. Now the FPV market is flooded with low cost systems; Sadly DiY FPV video projects are now rarely discussed.

RC-CAM.com (main site and forum) will be closing down August 2021. This is being announced now (March 2021) so that everyone has time to download any information that is important to them. After the site is shutdown the information will no longer be available here.

We appreciate every member's involvement with advancing the FPV hobby. It is indeed sad to say goodbye to all our online friends. Be safe and stay healthy.

  1. yeah.. but i havent bought the Lipo yet... so i wanted to know in advance so i could buy the right Lipo... i found a 620 mAh Lipo weighing about 50 g... a 1000 mAh Lipo would be twice as heavy.. but even if i estimate 300 mA for both devices, that would leave me with around 1 hr, which should be enough i guess

Hi Wavess, nice plane you got there.. i am thinking about doing the same, once i learn how to fly properly Since i am also situated in Europe i would like to know if you purchased the TME at hobby lobby and if the answer is yes, what did you pay for the shipment? I am also very interested in the hardware you used in it. The links to hobbycity seem to have expired. I would like to know the model names of the equipment you used since i am kind of irritated by all the things involved in choosing the right brushless motor . Thx, Jens
  3. i am not sure... i am trying to calculate the power consumption of my tx/camera combo. On the label of the tx the consumption is mentioned to be 300 mA whereas in the datasheet of the camera there is only "200 mW" for power consumption to be found... so i tried to calculate a value in mA to add it to my 300 mA of the tx. I came up with 18 mA (see the posting above) which seems to be a bit low... since the cameras on rangevideo have a power consumption around 200 mA, but then, those are all CCD cameras, mine is a simple CMOS.... but i dunno exactly... Maybe theres a general flaw to my thinking
  4. ok... seems i can keep my motor for a while at least... rigging an independend power supply did the trick... no glitches at full thrust... at least as long as Tx and RX are in the same room... range tests will come soon i hope.. so far i haven´t found a convenient way to record the feed. A while ago my camcorder did the trick, but right now i can´t get it to work the way i want it to And everytime i press "Record" on my Laptop... everything freezes Maybe i´ll just mount the stuff on my ES and go flying and ask a guy to tell me about the video quality and point my patch antenna for me ^^ A
  5. thx for your input... i guess i´ll start by using a different power supply for the AV stuff, thought i might be able to save some weight here since weight carrying capacity and space are kind of scarce in my ES =P Next i will try to mount the ESC as far away from the RX as possible, which is kind of hard given the space i got in my ES.. i already cut a hole between the servos to push the Lipo back there. Now i got more space in the main cabin but still not enough and i also need to use some weight in the nose to level out the plane again. I am really looking forward to a bigger plane ^^,
  6. ok now... to get on-topic again i build myself a nice plywood pan&tilt construction which fits onto my ES. I finished soldering the connections together (got rid of those standard plugs) and replaced the fried camera.. So far so good. Just now i tried the whole setup on the ground. Under thrust, the picture breaks up and gets real bad. I am so far using a brushed motor... i guess thats the reason for my problems? I also use my 3s Lipo to simultaneously power the ESC(BEC), Camera & RX... dunno if that might be a problem... Thx in advance, Jens =)
  7. Just to keep you posted. I fried the cam, since, as you mentioned, there was a regulator hidden in the cables and i forgot to check for it. But already got another cheap CMOS camera. Hope to be able to do some testing in the near future. I also build the GP patch antenna.. we´ll see how good a job i did about that ^^. Jens
  8. Thx for the quick answer! Since the drill slipped some way during drilling, the center post is kind of almost touching the ground plate. I was thinking about using a bit of cable isolation to prevent contact. Would that be ok?
  9. Hi, i am trying to build a GP Patch Antenna using the instructions from the main site. So far i cut out the metal pieces and drilled the holes. I am now about to start soldering in the SMA Connector, but i ran into some questions... First, do i solder the center post of the SMA Connector to the ground plate? Or is it intended to have it NOT touching or being electrically connected to the groundplate? Second, how am i supposed to trim the SMA Connector legs to be flush with the front side of the ground plate? File them down? What kind of tool would you propose to do the trimming? Thx i

TX Unit runs on 9-12V, can´t tell you about the camera though.. i will simply measure the resulting voltage on the camera end after cutting the cable and hooking up a 9V Block... if its not 9V on the other side then i guess there is a regulator hidden in the cable Thx a lot for mentioning that. Better safe than sorry =) I got the stuff from Hong Kong via Ebay... Shop named RVMshop $73,05 including shipping.
  11. Hi, i bought myself a simple 2,4 Ghz Wireless Camera Set to try some things out.. Everything seems to be working fine. I haven´t done any Range Tests so far since the weather is not very inviting to go outdoors lately.. I started building a setup to fit the camera assemblage to my Easy Star but i think the plugs currently used on my Set are too bulky and maybe also too heavy to be convenient... I would like to cut the plugs and solder the pieces together.. to show you i prepared a picture... Im no electronics expert so i just thought i might show you this, maybe there are some
  12. Hi, i am really excited about the whole FPV business, but since my budget is kind of small, i can´t buy myself too many toys. But still i am really interested in some video goggles. I would like to know how it "feels" to use them? Since the resolution is usually 640x480 and below i would like to know if one is able to see individual pixels? While reading about those goggles i often find the phrase "58" virtual TFT-LCD screen (at 1M distance)". But does it look like a 58" screen with a resolution of only 640x480 which would be kind of horrible i guess ^^? Jens
