The RC-Cam.com forum was the very first online community dedicated to the advancement of wireless video cameras on radio controlled (R/C) models. This is now called "FPV" (First Person View). We are proud of the contributions that our members have made to the FPV hobby.

We've seen significant changes over the last twenty years. Initially there were a lot of eager R/C hobbyist that built their own video systems. Allowing these creative individuals to share their work was the purpose of this site. Now the FPV market is flooded with low cost systems; Sadly DiY FPV video projects are now rarely discussed.

RC-CAM.com (main site and forum) will be closing down August 2021. This is being announced now (March 2021) so that everyone has time to download any information that is important to them. After the site is shutdown the information will no longer be available here.

We appreciate every member's involvement with advancing the FPV hobby. It is indeed sad to say goodbye to all our online friends. Be safe and stay healthy.

  1. Finding a good Techtronics or B&K 100 Mhz dual trace analog scope is fairly easy on the Ebay auction site. Be sure to insist on an answer to operability, as you may not have the time or skill required to repair a malfunction unit without already having a running oscilloscope. My last scope cost me 150.00, and i had to repair it, which for me was not an issue as I had another scope in the past of the same family and was already familiar with its geriatric failures(bad caps in the power supplies)

To dispell any myths here all video applications must be terminated into a 75 ohm load, while sometimes the video consumer device provides this(most cases), there are those other cases where the Video input is HiZ. Without termination most video sources will produce a 2x signal. On the flipside a double terminated line will only be developing .5 Vpp in which case the image will be dark at best and most likely the display will not be able to syncronize at all. Also do not tee tap video cables, the unterminated leg of the tee will reflect the 3.58MHz color carrier at wildly unpredictable phase a
  3. Turnstyle sort of, one beam straight aft, one vertical, and one horizontal. Can the same matching methods for 200MHz television yagi antennas be used @ 2400MHz? Ie. 1/4 wave seperation 180 Degree beam.
  4. Have you or any of your audience here come up with a way of driving 3 dipoles on 90 degree planes? the goal is to prevent dropout when the aircraft is in a tight bank close to the reciever(relatively, as in on the overhead pass).
  5. As you have heard it before go at it one step at a time. http://www.dpcav.com/xcart/product.php?pro...=265&page=1 is an economical pan tilt kit, there are also 2.4 Ghz Tx and Rx modules. I suggest you make a sit in flying station with rudder pedals and a throttle similar to a real world airplane console to free up a joystick for controlling the pan/tilt. A seperate reciever and transmitter for camera control might be a wise idea, the last thing you need in a flight casualty is for you to lock into a view of the aft rear corner of the cockpit.
  6. In the USA the AMA has adopted an almost verbatim edict in respect to FPV. I have been flying FPV for 3 years now and have recorded 80% of my flights. I used a tft monitor on the 7 foot pole my reciever was mounted to. Newbee pilots should not fly FPV until they have mastered visual flight including unexpected engine failures. Noise in the video will be encountered in flight and the pilot must have the experience to fly through the noise and not panic. Arkabutla in snow:
