The RC-Cam.com forum was the very first online community dedicated to the advancement of wireless video cameras on radio controlled (R/C) models. This is now called "FPV" (First Person View). We are proud of the contributions that our members have made to the FPV hobby.

We've seen significant changes over the last twenty years. Initially there were a lot of eager R/C hobbyist that built their own video systems. Allowing these creative individuals to share their work was the purpose of this site. Now the FPV market is flooded with low cost systems; Sadly DiY FPV video projects are now rarely discussed.

RC-CAM.com (main site and forum) will be closing down August 2021. This is being announced now (March 2021) so that everyone has time to download any information that is important to them. After the site is shutdown the information will no longer be available here.

We appreciate every member's involvement with advancing the FPV hobby. It is indeed sad to say goodbye to all our online friends. Be safe and stay healthy.

  1. The factory supplied ant was a piece of glass fiber tube about 6" long with 7 or 8 square copper elements glued to it in a line . a piece of coax led from the module to the 2nd element in the line so there was no connector at all
  2. Ok thank for the info I'll take the F off the 2.4 RX can I just solder a V short length of RG174 from the module to the patch? Ahab
  3. Terry If I dumped my present Tx where would you suggest I get a more powerful module all my searches come up with 10Mw stuff while I'm guessing i'd need about 1watt? Ahab
  4. Hi Guys I have just ordered from Maplins (UK) a Nikkai frequency counter and signal strength indicator. My question is : Once I have determined the actual frequency of my Hong Kong setup how do I determine the length the whip on the TX should be (at the moment it sticks 110mm out of the case.) It would appear that the Nikkai counter shows signal strength as a bar graph, can I keep chopping bits off the whip until the graph shopws the highest output or am I missing something and being really dumb here. I have some RG174 coax to make a ground plane ant but will this be too flimsy
  5. Ok Teery I'll try the servo tape as you suggest. By The By Maplins are doing a frequency counter ans signal strength meter fo fifty quid will that be usefull for tweaking ants etc How would you suggest adding more power to the TX I'm not an aerobatic freak so Ill try and keep close and level where would I find this DIVERSITY thing? Ahab
  6. I just did my first scrunch on RG174 1. strip back the outer sleeve 2. start the scruch NEAR to the base end That works a treat If you scrunch from the far end it wont go

Thanks for the reply Terry I plan on using the TX on a scale bipe and rather than chop holes in the bottom of the fuz I wanted to put the tx module and Nicad in the cockpit and perhaps trail the ground plane ant out of the cockpit. with the YB2normal ground plane ant does the element point up or down? Until I get the range I want and the stability (no dropouts) I am using one of the Cheapo cmos cameras that came with a Hong Kong 1.2 GHz setup. I am planning on having the camera mounted on the fin facing forward . The Tx and camera are both 5v so I will run them from a 4.8V nicad. When I
  8. Hi there can anyone shed any light on how long i can make the coax(RG174A/U) between my 2.4GHz Tx and The YB2normal ground plane ant? I realise the answer is probably going to be "short as Poss" but as I plan to fit the Tx in a scale model I need to know just how short it needs to be
  9. I am still looking and will post here if I find anything out. I have built a goof proof patch anyway based on the assumption that my HK system is running on what seems to be a common 1.06 GHz. The weather in my part of the UK ( Hertfordshire) has not allowed me to test the patch in the air but I reckon I am geting X2 range at ground level down my street ( not a good test facility). which is encouraging. When I get some results I will post here My Patch is made of Brass with a screw in F type satellite fitting screwed into the ANT socket Wish Me Luck
  10. Hi There I have seen a lot posted about THe HONG KONG 1.2Ghz set up not being 1.2 Ghz. I have one of these set ups and I would love to know a) where can i get a fequency counter which one do I need and c) how do I use it any halp would be much appreciated
