Best Planes for FPV

Recommended Posts

Hi, I start this topic to discuss which are the best planes to satisfy our FPV flights.

I´ve thought that gas scale models would be best for carrying extra weight and long distance flights. Also to avoid interference from electric stuff. Also almost every scale needs to add weight on the nose in order to achieve a good CG. The hard thing is to get rid of vibrations, but with a nice mounting I think it could pass.

So here we go, my first plane would be a Piper Cub J3. It can fly really slow, carry extra weight, and needs to add weight up front. The bad thing of is that taxing with it is really hard, almost any wind would affect it in take off operation. That´s why I thought in a Super Decathlon. It´s much easier to tax with it and winds doesn´t affect that much. Also we have a lot of room inside it. Here we have a big kit, I always like more the kits than RTFs.

So the dicussion it´s open, more ideas?

The ELECTRIC VERSION"s"( 1000mm) From Hobby-Lobby is actually cheaper at Ebay. It's actually manufactured in China by Art Tech

If you follow the link you can see a video of how it floats. Anyhow I own one and is going to be sold. It wouldn't lift once I installed sharp ccd cam plus a/v tx and to make things even worst, the one wheel fell off (never did find the nut.) as soon as I launched it!

So the out come was it never flew and the wheel went right and the plane went left into the snow and dented it's nose and my hope! So reconsider about this model, unless you can make your set up really-really light!

JMS, so do you think that the RAPTOR 1600mm version is better than the 1000mm chenese version?

My opinon on the cheap Chinese one was not good from my experience, but if you goto http://www.rangevideo.com/customers.html , you will see the 1600mm being used already for FPV. The guy is using equipment from Range Video and he shows his setup. Good reference if you wish to go that route. BTW Nice choice of plane Sergio, I like the US UAV Predators' looks as well! :)

I fly severals glow planes and now I prefer electric for their reliability and also they are lighter and less dangerous. I like very much the predator, it a better choice for aerial video.
