Recommended Posts

Hi Folks,

saw this today in the shop:

http://www.sitecom.com/product.php?product...4&subgroupid=2#

I just gave up finding the %$!?#§§ Connector for the Goof Proof Patch antenna.

Frequencywise it should be a match with the receiver.

Anybody has experience with WLAN patch antennas and wireless video?

Btw. That thing is approx. 40 euros...

thx 4 u'r answers

WLAN antennas use RP-SMA connectors while our video gear uses SMA. Some overcome this problem by putting a little piece of wire in the connectors' holes.

Other than this it's OK.

I add a little piece of wire on my rp-sma antenna and the reception was very bad, so finally I'm not sure it really work well, perhaps my antenna's are not good or something wrong happens when I use only a little piece of wire, I don't know where the problem come.

The wire technique can work, but you need to be a little careful.

A wire with a too-large diameter can damage the connectors, and cause a bad connection when the connectors are used without it.

A wire with too-small diameter just creates a bad connection full stop.

(SMA connectors are quite sensitive, even the torque used to attach them can be fairly critical)

One way to use WiFi antennas is to use the airwave modules, and use RP-SMA connectors instead of SMAs. Mouser stocks various RP-SMA connectors.

Another advantage of going this route is that when purchasing antennas from people like hyperlink, the RP-SMA version of the antenna is generally quite a bit cheaper.

Or you can just use an adapter :) I have a very cheap gold plated adapter which i use, it doesnt reduce the signal quality or range noticably.
