Recording to Laptop out in the field

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I know lugging a laptop, out into the field is not always feasible. But I did read a pretty impressive review on some direct to hard disk recording software that I thought I'd share with you nice folks. Its called DV Rack. I have considered it for my potential plans however I have an external usb hard disk that would also require a battery to run. It gets a bit messy..

But thought I'd share it anyway.

Do you mean you want to plug your DV camcorder to te PC on the field and directly record?

In that case, you can also use the tiny and ultra-simple WinDV freeware... I always use that to capture DV, does a nice file splitting and eliminates the need to load a huge editing software just to do some capturing.

If your cam and Laptop both have firewire you can use adobe premier for "lossless" video quality and then encode later with quality codecs (Divx, Xvid). This is what I will be doing when I have a cam set up.
