Heatshrinking panel antenna

Recommended Posts

Hi there. Commercial panel antennae come in butch plastic housings that are presumably hurricane proof, but bulky.

Has anyone tried just using the inner bit (the actual panel antenna) just covered in heatshrink? Does it / would it affect the antenna performance?

I have found heatshrink to effect the tuning of aerials at 2.4Ghz so I would say leave it as it is.

Not mentioning that without the case it wouldn't be protected against forces, it wouldn't be long before you bent one of the thin plates while carrying it. The element isn't much smaller than the casing anyway.
