Actually the one I'm using now is this one:-

What I need is to make one that can be read by th MCU. Which isn't hard to do actually. I don't know about reed switches though - at the speeds we are reaching, the reed switch may not be able to keep up, and if it does, it may not last very long. Maybe a hall sensor would be better, and impose less magnetic drag. Or even a coil. Both of these will require some signal conditioning though.
