1080P wireless HD Video Coming soon

Recommended Posts

Some alternative wireless HD video chip sets have been in the works that I think could eventually be useful for short range (park flyer) FPV apps. For example: EDN Magazine, Wireless Video Article.

This article describes new IC's that offer latency free (1mS) 1080P HD video support on the 5.8GHz band. It avoids compression, which is a novel thing and perhaps best for our app. Hopefully more chip sets will appear too and help spawn some cheap hackable products for us.

More Info: Amimon Web site.

These seem to be in the first commercial apps using it: http://www.automatedhome.co.uk/New-Product...eless-HDMI.html

Another one:

I wonder how it's gonna work out. The Gigavideo is specified at 12m max range, the Belkin at 30m. I'd have some doubts a 1.5GBps link at the powers the 5GHz band allows would give useable range...

It's hard to say for sure how it will work out for our app, but we can extrapolate a bit. With about 1mW RF at 5.8GHz, and 40MHz occupied bandwidth for the 3GBps link, Amimon claims 100 foot range inside the home. I think that with 500mW, it would give several hundred meters in a wide open area and would be fine for park flyers. It would be nice to have my prediction come true. :)

Guys we need better googles than 800x600 to take the advantage of 1080i, with 3 rca´s like HD and so on. There is important too the frame rate of the transmition, I´ve some recordings and 1080 with 30fps it´s low for our flights, kind of see the video with jumps. Otherwise I´ve made some 720p 60fps recordings and seemed to be fine.

Besides Goggles, we will need low cost 1080P cameras that work well for our application. At this point, everything is just a pipe dream.

Regarding frame rate, the Amimon scheme allows for 1080p/24 frame rate @ 120Hz refresh. This is uncompressed video with no more than 1mS latency.
