My camera takes 3.3 volts external power

Recommended Posts

I have a samsung 201 digimax. I was wondering that since it calls for 3.3 volts input voltage, is it possible to power it with 3.6 volts and not fry it? I'm thinking an extra .3 volts isn't much but I got the camera cheap and it works very well, but it's a bit power hungry. I'm thinking a 3 cell 1900 ma pack would power it for quite a while. Thanx for any help from the camera gurus

Don't forget that 3 cells may be 3.6 volts nominal with 1.2 volts per cell but full charged cells can be 1.2-1.4 volts per cell. So 3 fully charged cells can be as much as 4.2 volts. If the camera has an internal regulator then it might be ok, but if not you are pushing the envelope.

How hard would it be to use a regulator in the plug? I would just use a standard plug and socket on the lead for the pack and have the regulator in the side going to the camera. That way I could just disconnect the pack from the lead to recharge it. Or would I just be better off getting a 2 C or D holder?
