patch antenna and reciever in the sky?

Recommended Posts

I have an aluminum TV tower that is no longer being used on my house, and was wondering if I could get better range if I mounted my RX with a patch antenna on it? It's about thirty feet high, but I'm wondering if all that metal will cause interference. I would run the RCA cables down to the monitor in the house to view while flying.

I would think its more trouble than its worth. Unless the tower is going to give you a clear line of sight where you did not have one before there will be no advantage. As for the metal, it wont be a problem.

OK, thanks Terry. If I try to fly more than half a mile away, I might just put it on the tower. It won't be much trouble to get it up there, and take it down after I'm done flying. The RX is 12 Volt and I have a 12 battery, and long enough RCA cables and it is easily climbed. I think I'll test more with the RX on the deck in my backyard before I try it out, though.
