Air To Air Video Progress

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Ahab, TT (a friend) and I had our first attempt at using the Mk2 PilotCam in my Sopwith Pup for Air To Air video a week or so back. I flew the Pup, TT flew a 1/4 scale Stearman and Ahab controlled the camera. The ground station used a 2.4 GHz bow tie aerial with the receiver output split between the Eye-Trek goggles Ahab was using to control the camera and the Mustek PVR-A1 used to record the image. Lack of a video buffer meant the A1 only actually recorded mono which we didn't notice till we got home but the results showed that we are on the right track. You can see a couple of stills from the flight on my site at:

I think you will agree that they show the promise of the system despite the poor quality of the video on this occasion.

An earlier flight Ahab made with the A1 onboard his Tiger Moth confirmed that this is the best way to go in the land of 10mW transmitters. The droputs the camera operator sees don't matter anymore, you get great recordings!

Hopefully we will have some videos for you in the next couple of weeks.
