R/C MODEL HELICOPTER CAMERA SYSTEM
Chapter 2:
Up, Up and Away
My original camera
carrying model helicopter was a Kyosho Concept 30 SR powered by a
OS32 glow engine. Construction was a nuts and bolts sort of activity and
required several hours to assemble and adjust. The Radio Control System was
a JR XP783 computerized radio with a piezo gyro to stabilize the tail.
The Concept 30 has
been discontinued for some time (the current version is called the Concept
32VR). It was a popular model heli design that is very stable and has sufficient
lift to carry our electronic payload. The OS32 glow engine can produce about
one horsepower and the main rotor blades are four feet in diameter, so the
helicopter is quite ready to take on our lifting challenge.
The above photo shows
my model during its assembly phase (missing engine, main rotor blades, camera
gear, etc.). Sometime around 2002 I became involved with electric park flyer
R/C airplanes and I retired the Concept.
